SKYWARN Recognition Day

event2000.gif     We are getting closer to SKYWARN Recognition Day.  This year it will take place on December 6th, lasting all day long.  The official time for the event is 0000 to 2400 UTC, click here to convert it to your local time.  This is the 10th annual recognition day for the National Weather Service.

Each year, the National Weather Service now holds what they call SKYWARN Recognition Day in an effort to help promote SkyWarn and to thank the storm spotters that make the SkyWarn program work.  While this event is geared towards amateur radio operators, it is meant to say thanks to all of the spotters regardless of amateur radio status.

Spotters and amateur radio operators around the world are encouraged to contact their local and other National Weather Service offices.  Some NWS offices will even allow you to visit and take part in amateur radio operations on their grounds, just contact them for more information.  If you make a contact with a weather service office, you will have the opportunity to receive a certificate that shows which ones you have worked.

For more details about SKYWARN Recognition Day, the NWS and the included events, please go to the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) webpage dedicated to this event.  Here you will find all the links you will need, including the history of the event and a list of NWS offices taking part.
