2008 SkyWarn Training Schedule Print E-mail
Saturday, 01 December 2007
Here is information about the 2008 SkyWarn training schedule.  Listed here are the three major dates that all Kaufman County ARES members need to be aware of.  For a complete listing of dates, please visit the National Weather Service (NWS) website.

All ARES members are requested to make at least the evening class on Febuary 20 (Wednesday), this is only a 2 hour class and covers the basics of SkyWarn.  This class will be held at the Kaufman City Fire Station starting at 7:00 pm and running until 9:00 pm.  This is a good class, but again, it only covers the basics.

All ARES members (or those interested) should try and attend the Febuary 16 (Saturday) class to be held in Garland.  This class is held at the Granville Arts Center in downtown Garland.  The class runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  This class consists of both the basic standard spotters class and the advance stoppers class.  This is a great class to attend and we are trying to obtain a van or bus to take to the class so all members (that wish) can ride together.

ARES members might conside attending the March 8 class in Colleyville.  This is known as the Super Spotters class and is presented by the NWS and TESSA.  The class is to be held at the Colleyville Center Tessa Storms Conf. and runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  If there is enough interest in this class, we may again try to get a van or bus to shuttle everyone to the class.

Storm spotting is an important part of ARES programs and a great benefit to the communities at large.  Though this is a not a required training class, we do ask that everyone try to attend, at least once every 2 to 3 years.  The information obtained from this class is wonderful to have on a daily basis and you never know when you might need to make a report or observation that might save a persons life or even that of a
