SkyWarn is a program of the National Weather Service in which people are trained as storm spotters that assist in providing Ground Truth reports to the NWS. The individuals are trained to provide as much information to the NWS and local/county level emergency officials. The SkyWarn Spotters program is open to anyone that wishes to take part of it and is not limited to any one group or groups.
By using amateur radio operators and working in a NET, Kaufman County ARES is working to provide large amounts of coveage for the entire county and surrounding areas. There are some smaller groups of spotters and Kaufman County ARES is hoping to work with them in the future to form a large responsive SkyWarn program.
Kaufman County ARES is excited to be a part of the SkyWarn program and looking forward to expanding our roles in these activities as time goes on. Working with our volunteer members, we are able to provide up-to-the minute information that can be used to save lives.

You do not have to be a member of Kaufman County ARES, Inc. or any other organization to take part in SkyWarn, but you must register with us as a spotter, so we know who you are.
As most people know, Texas has a unique weather structure and has been know to generate severe storms at anytime of the year. Therefore, our SkyWarn spotters will have a chance to take part in SkyWarn operations almost anytime they wish.
Storm Spotters are the eyes and ears for the national weather service, without the reports from these spotters, the information that is obtained by the radars would not mean as much as they do today.
