What Is The KCSWA?

The KCSWA™ or Kaufman County SkyWarn Association™, is an association formed by Kaufman County ARES, Inc. , Kaufman County CERT, Inc. , Kaufman County Citizen Corps, Inc., Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. and Southern Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., for the benefit of Kaufman County and it's citizens.  Our goal is to work together, to try and bring all active SkyWarn spotters throughout Kaufman County together, in the attempt to be able to provide the best SkyWarn program that we can.

The formation of this Association is to help bring together the various resources of each spotter and spotter program so that they can be used together and to prevent duplicaiton of efforts.  By forming this Association, we are hoping to eliminate the thoughts that one group is allowed to do SkyWarn, while others are not, which is not correct.  Anyone that has taken the NWS Storm Spotter classes are asked to become a part of the Association.

Though there is no actual membership applicaiton into the association, we do have a short questionare that we ask to be filled out, so that we can have you on record, know where you live in the county, what equipment that you have to use, club affilicaiton, etc, all items needed to help make the SkyWarn program better for the community.

This Association is open to anyone that has completed a SkyWarn training class or will be doing so.  If you have an amateur radio operators license, that is even better.  If you don't, we can help you get one, if you wish.  The Association is setup to be able to monitor all radio frequencies in the County to better hear SkyWarn activities and reports.
