SkyWarn is a program of the National Weather Service (NWS). Each year the NWS trains people to act as storm spotters to assist eith spotting activites in their communities. Even though the NWS has some of the newest technology, they must also rely on spotters to provide a first hand view of what is going on. The NWS radar system can provide a lot of information, but this info, combined with reports from storm spotters, can provide an even larger picture of what is going on during a severe storm. Kaufman County ARES, Inc. is a member of the SkyWarn community. By using our volunteers that have been through the training, we can better assist the NWS here in the Dallas area and can help to ensure the safety of our communities when the need arises. If you have not been through the SkyWarn training class, please check our SkyWarn page for more information. |
