Kaufman County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Inc.

By law in Texas, all incorporated organization, whether a business or non-profit, must maintain a registered agent.  This agent does not have to be a living person, but can be another corporation registered with the state.

Kaufman County ARES, Inc. has elected to have Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. act as it's registered agent.  At this time, Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. is also maintaining all records for us.

Why did we choose to use Southern Search & Rescue, Inc.?  For many various reasons, but simply, it is easier to have another like organization to act on our behalf.

But what does a registered agent do?  The purpose of a registered agent is to act as a point of contact mainly for the State, encase the organization needs to be served process or some other type of important documents.  The agent is authorized to act on behalf of the organization to handle these types of events only.  Once the items are received, the agent is to pass the information onto the appropriate person within the organization.

Also, since Southern Search & Rescue, Inc. is one of the sponsoring agencies for Kaufman County ARES, Inc., it provides for better efficiency to have them act as out agent.  With the additional support that is being provided by them, it just makes sense.
