The future of amateur radio relies with the youth of today and tomorrow.  Kaufman County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Inc. is committed to help bring this activity to children in our area, help them develop an interest in amateur radio, assist them in getting their license, helping them to grow and teaching them how to use amateur radio to help others.

As an ARRL Affiliated Club, we have made it one of our responsibilities to promote amateur radio to kids and youth.  This is a great way for them to learn about a different form of communication, instead of cell-phones, that can really have an impact on their lives.  They have a great opportunity to learn and meet other kids and people that have a similar interest and can help them grow.

Help Support Our Youth Programs

There are a lot of different activities that kids can become involved in.  KCARES is working hard with all of items members to develop and provide new and unique things to these kids.  Whether its taking part in what is called a fox-hunt or using the moom to communicate to other people.  Its all done in the name of fun, while learn how to use these same skills to help others.

Currently, our youngest licensed member is at the end of his teens and we are working to bring more youngsters into this.  There are a lot of things kids can learn in amateur radio and use in school and vice-versa.  Even though amateur radio seems kind of basic, it does have a lot of underlying math and science in it.  Our goal is to focus our youth programs to kids ages 8 and up.  This will give them a great opportunity.  Not only can they learn more about the world from other radio folks, they'll get to help us with serving our community at large.

No matter if you are a boy or a girl, we have something for you to do and try.  If you happen to be into scouting, there are some other things to take part in such as Jamboree on the Air and obtaining your radio merit badge.  We have members that are registered merit badge counclers and more.  They are all willing to help kids make the most of amateur radio.  Want to take part in a contest, you can do that.  There is just a whole world full of activities waiting for you out there.
