Kaufman County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Inc.

Unique Amateur Radio Location
arrl_clear.png    According to The Daily Astorian the Home Depot in Warrenton, OR is becoming home to amateur radio.  In an effort to provide better emergency communications in and around Clastop County Oregan, Home Depot and local Amateur Radio Operaters got together to establish a meeting place in their county to allow citizens to be able to communicate with the outside world.

During December 2007, severe winter weather in the area crippelled most infustructors that people rely on for their daily lives.  For over a period of two weeks, the Clastop County area was without electricity, phones, cell phones, internet and other similar services.  People living in the affected area where unable to communicate to anyone outside of the immediate area, unless they were communicating by Amateur Radio.

This led Don Hillgaertner (WA7TEM), Clastop ARES/RACES coordinator and Ken Lucke (WA7PIX), Vice-president of the Sunset Empire Amateur Radio Club to work with the corporate office of Home Depot to establish a relationship that would allow them to install an Amatuer Radio antenna on the Home Depot store in Warrenton.  With the help of a third party company, the antenna was installed on the building, providing a great opportunity to help their community during an emergency or disaster.
