California Meeting Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 March 2007
Not very often does members of various ARES organizations have the chance to meet that is not an emergency operation, training session or HamFest. Yes, there are times that groups that neighbor each other might train on a mutual basis, but have ARES members from different states just meet to talk is a rare thing. Not very often does members of various ARES organizations have the chance to meet that is not an emergency operation, training session or HamFest.  Yes, there are times that groups that neighbor each other might train on a mutual basis, but have ARES members from different states just meet to talk is a rare thing.

On March 14, 2007, while on vacation in California, Chris Hodgdon - KE5IGO, had the opportunity to meet and talk with members of Los Angeles Section ARES, Inc.  Since January, Mr. Hodgdon has been assisting Marty Woll - N6VI, with getting this ARES program back into operation and good standing with the State of California as a non-porfit ARES organization.  The informal meeting was held between Mr. Hodgdon, Mr. Woll and Dennis Smith - KA6GSE, who is the Section Emergency Coordinator.

This meeting was more of a meeting between long distance amateur radio operators, but there were a lot of neat and unique ideas passed between this members of ARES.  Some of the information that was exchanged was about various types of training that each group currently does and is looking to do in the future, unique situations do to where each group is located and more.

One idea that came out of this meeting, was to create a sistership or brothership formation between both organiztions in an ability to help each other with various tasks and training opportunities.  There is a MOU that is currently being drafted that will layout the details of this partnership between both groups.

Both groups are looking at the opportunity to be able to invite members of the other group to come and take part in various training events or public service events.  As with most amateur radio operators and those registered with ARES, there is a mutal understanding to working with each group during a disaster or emergency event.  This may include, but is not limited to, acting as a relay station, a practice disaster zone and more.

Kaufman County ARES, Inc. is looking forward to generating a long term relationship with Los Angeles Section ARES, Inc.  Mr. Hodgdon is hoping that there will be more meetings in the future and that we will have the opportunity to host members from California here in Texas.  For more information about Los Angeles Section ARES, Inc., please visit their website.
