We wish to welcome our youngest member, B.J. Vincik - KE5RPX. He has joined Kaufman County ARES in an effort to help make a difference in his community. B.J. is currently our youngest member and one of th newest to be licensed into amateur radio. B.J. received his callsign KE5RPX and Technician License on November 28, 2007.
B.J. is a student at Kaufman High School, where he takes part in many student activities, including the National Honors Society, Student Council, Interact Club, Yearbook Staff, and UIL Academics. He is also a member of the Kaufman High School Varsity Tennis team, where he is ranked #3. He has also been District Champion along with his partner in the Boys Doubles, advancing to the Regional Tournament, where they made it to the 2nd round. In academics, he is an Advanced Placement (AP) student and maintains a mostly A's and B's.
B.J. is also very active in his community, not only is he a member of Kaufman County ARES, but he also volunteers that the Kaufman County Library. To date, he has logged over 200 volunteer hours at the library alone. He is currently working the the command staff of Kaufman County ARES in an attempt to establish a radio club at the High School, both in an effort to get other students involoved into amateur radio and to help bring new members into the organization.
The main reason I got involved in amateur radio was because my dad asked me if I wanted to take the class with him. Shortly before we got our licenses, we met Chris (KE5IGO) and other members of Kaufman County ARES at the Kaboodle Festival and promised to be in touch shortly thereafter. I am still new to amateur radio and am trying to learn more as I go along, but I hope to be a valuable member of the Kaufman County ARES team.
B.J. Vincik was granted membership into Kaufman County ARES on December 11, 2007. In early 2008, a decision was made to make B.J. an Assistant Emergency Coordinator to Emergency Coordinator Chris Hodgdon. B.J.'s official title is Assistant Emergency Coordinator Youth Operations. What a better way to reach younger people, but by having a young person for them to talk and communicate with.
