Texas Governor Rick Perry proclaims June 18th - 24th as Amateur Radio Operator Week.
Across the nation, amateur radio operators are preparing for our Field Day, which like field days in a school is an event that brings radio operators for a common goal. Like many governors across the nation, Texas Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed June 18th thru 24th as Amateur Radio Operator Week. In recognition of what amateur radio operators do for Texas and the nation, he filed an official Proclamation on June 15th, 2007.
Texas Proclamation 2007
Since the dawn of radio operations and the developement of of the amateur radio service, operators have been looking for ways to continue you the development of their skills. By having various contest and Field Day each year, those individuals that are licensed by the FCC or the authority for amateur radio were they are located, work at meeting new contacts, practicing sending message and designing a "field" station that can operate on its own.
Skills learn through field day are a direct benefit to the general public when amateur radio operators provide their services to assist others in times of need. Beginning with the early days of radio, it was realized that this would be an important tool to helping others.
Here locally, the currently field day station is being setup by the Trinity Valley Amateur Radio Club in Terrell and is being manned by their members, which some of them are also members of Kaufman County ARES, which they will repersent at the same time.
Why setup a field day station? Well another purpose of Field Day, is to get out into the public and draw an interest to what we are doing. Some stations will operate in a Get On The Air (G.O.T.A.) format in an effort to let non-amateur's a chance to get on the air and communication with someone around the country or the world.
As Governor Perry stated in his Proclamation, it is in the best interest of regular, non-amateur citizens to take the time to learn more about amateur radio and its operators and what we are all about. This Proclamation is also a request that these people get out their and see what they can do to help the community, their friends, family and those they may never meet.
So it is our honor to present this Proclamation to the citizens of Texas and others around the nation and world and wish to include it with many Proclamations from around the nation by other Governors that see the need to honor those that give of their time, free of charge, to volunteer to help their communities. We wish to thank Governor Perry for helping to promote amateur radio and all that we do.
