Amateur Radio Week Proclaimed

W
elcome to June, as most of you know, this is when we hold Field Day.  This year, Field Day is officially on June the 27th and 28th.  In preparation for Field Day, lots of clubs, groups and others take steps to help promote our activities and Field Day.  One of the biggest forms of public promotion is the official statement from a states Governor.  Well, on May 27th, that is just want happened here in the Great State of Texas, Governor Rick Perry made a proclamation in support of amateur radio operators.

Below, we have included the full text of the official proclamation and you can view/download a copy in PDF format using the image on the left.  We wish to thank Governor Perry for his support in the efforts of Amateur Radio Operators and for public preparedness in general.

This goes out to all amateur radio operators in the State of Texas and those amateur radio operators that have help the citizens of Texas from beyond our state lines.

STATE OF TEXAS
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

The technology and art of radio have captured the popular imagination since its invention in the late 19th century.  Early in radio's history, enthusiasts communicated with each other for the purposes of recreation, personal edification and public service.  While hobbyists and experimenters have greatly improved the technology of amateur radio operating, the commitment to community service remains the same.

In times of crisis that render other forms of communications unavailable, from Hurricane Ike to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, amateur radio operators relay critical emergency information.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to learn more about amateur radio and to recognize the contributions amateur radio operators make to our great state, in both times of crisis and in tims of peace.

Therefor, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim June 27-28, 2009,

Amateur Radio Operator Week

in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.

In official recognition whereof,
I hereby affix my signature this the
27th day of May, 2009.

Rick Perry (signature)
Governor of Texas

We would like to make a small note in laughter.  He did proclaim it Amateur Radio Operator Week, but only used the last two days of that week for the official dates.  Guess things have been real busy down in Austin.  Kaufman County ARES, Inc. is proud to accept this official proclamation on behalf of all amateur radio operators in the Great State of Texas.  This is the third year in a row that we have been honored with the presentation of the proclamation and maintain them proudly on our walls.  If you happen to be in the city of Kaufman in October for our October Fall Fest on October 24, you can come by our both and view the actual proclamation.
