Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, has proclaimed June 23rd to the 29th as Amateur Radio Operator Week. In recognition of what amateur radio operators do, he has made it know to the citizens of Texas and visitors to our state that we are here to help.
We wish to thank Governor Perry for his recognition of amateur radio, amateur radio operators and what we do for the public. Working together, we can make a difference to those that we help.
Texas Proclamation 2008
"State of Texas
Office of the Governor
Since its invention in the late 19th century, the technology and art of radio have captured the popular imagination. Early in radio's history, enthusiasts began to communicate with each other for the purposes of recreation, personal edification and public service. While hobbyist and experimenters have greatly improved the technology of amateur radio operating, the commitment to community service remains the same.
In times of crisis that rendered other forms of communications unavailable, amateur radio operators have critical emergency information. Hurricanes Katrina and Rite and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, are but two major examples.
At this time, I encourage all Texans to learn more about amateur radio and to recognize the contributions that amateur radio operators make to the safety and benefit of our great state, both in times of crisis and in times of peace.
Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim June 23-29, 2008,
Amateur Radio Operator Week
in Texas, and urge the appropriate recognition whereof.
In official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this the 20th day of June, 1008.
Rick Perry
Governor of Texas
