Kaufman County ARES, like a lot of ARES/RACES/Amateur Groups around the nation recommend changing all power connectors to Anderson Powerpoles.  With the Powerpoles simple design, it makes a lot of sense that most ARES and RACES groups around the nation are using them.  One of the biggest benefits is the fact that it removes the manufactures designed power connection and gives one that is universally designed to work.

Why do we recommend the Powerpole?  Its simply a matter of ease of operation.  When responding the an ARES event or emergency, you want the quickest way to get your radio on the air.  If you radio is a grab-n-go kit, you need to consider being able to connect to an outside power source.  Using the Powerpole makes this easy, since a lot of others are using them, you can just connect into a pig-tail to connect to their system.

All organization owned vehicles and equipment are going to include the Anderson Powerpole connections.  So, if you show up to an operation, you will simple be able to walk up and plug into the power source and start talking.   It is recommend by most groups to use the 30 Amp Powerpole, which we have provided a link to purchase some from PowerWerx below.  We will try to maintain a supply on hand, so contact us to see if we have any available.

To learn more about using the Powerpoles and setting up you connections, please read our installation instructions here.

Besides connecting your radios to a power supply, the Powerpoles can be used for lots of other items.  In fact, all organization vehicles will have a larger Powerpole connection at the front (maybe the back, too) that consists of a 350 Amp series Powerpole to be used for making a connection to the vehicle battery for the purpose of jump-starts, thus eliminating the need to open the hood and place yourself in danger, photos and details to come.
