Kaufman County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, Inc.

Emergency Coordinator
Chris Hodgdon - KE5IGO is the current Emergency Coordinator (EC) for Kaufman County ARES, Inc.  He is one of the original founding members of this group, even before he obtained his amateur license back in 2006.  Originally brought on as a non-active Assistant EC, Mr. Hodgdon helped to take the program from a basic idea to a registered non-profit corporation in Texas and has been working to make this a stable and highly usable program within Kaufman County.

Mr. Hodgdon was officially titled Emergency Coordinator the summer of 2006.  Since becoming a part of the ARES program and receiving his amateur license, Mr. Hodgdon has succeeded in obtaining our frequency coordination for our repeater and obtained a club callsign to be used for the organization.

At this time, Mr. Hodgdon has a technician but is working to upgrade it to Amateur Extra.  Even though the FCC has removed the Morse Code requirement to upgrade, he has committed to learning it as another option to use in his amateur activities.

With a strong history in emergency response and disaster relief, Mr. Hodgdon brings a large amount of knowledge to Kaufman County ARES, Inc. and works to insure that the program will exceed any request that is asked of its members.  Working with his Assistants and all the volunteers, he is trying to develop various programs that will meet the various needs for both emergency response and public service throughout the county.

Mr. Hodgdon is also the current safety director/training for Kaufman County ARES, Inc. and is developing an expanded SkyWarn program for the county to insure that every part of the county has the ability to take part in storm spotting, which allows for faster relay of information to the National Weather Service and other emergency response groups throughout the county.  He is also working with ARES members in obtain CERT training from the Kaufman County CERT program.  By having ARES members that are CERT trained, we are able to provide a faster response to help victims after a disaster strikes the county.

"If you are interested at all in helping your community, amateur radio or both, Kaufman County ARES, Inc. has a place for you on our team.  You do not have to be a licensed ham to join, but we will gladly help you gain your license if you wish" Chris Hodgdon KE5IGO - EC
